“Insights on Tap: A Speaker Series” is an intimate conversation—or “bar stool” chat—hosted by Social Distillery, an Austin social media agency. We’ve invited local experts from a variety of industries to speak on pressing topics that affect our community, as well as, the world at large. Each conversation will provide an intimate look into a trending topic. The series will take place the third Wednesday of the month from July to November.

The need for employees with advanced digital skills are in high demand and there are many new avenues to gain these skills: universities, trade schools, online learning programs, on the job training, etc. In this session, local educators and experts in career placement will discuss approaches for both the employer and job seeker to successfully navigate this new landscape to make sure everyone is prepared for the future of work.
David Yeager, Experimental Developmental Psychologist, Department of Psychology, The University of Texas at Austin
David Yeager is an experimental developmental psychologist in the department of psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. In his academic research, he examines the causes of and solutions to adolescent heath problems such as bullying, depression, academic achievement, cheating, trust, or healthy eating. He often focuses on adolescent transitions—the transitions to middle school, high school and college—as a place where there is great opportunity (and risk) for you people’s trajectories.
In May 2014, Dr. Yeager’s research was profiled in The New York Times Magazine, Who Get’s to Graduate? He is also a William T. Grant Foundation scholar, a Fellow at Carnegie Foundation for Advancement of Teaching, a Faculty Research Associate at the UT Population Research Center and a Faculty Research Fellow at the UT Dana Center. Cindy Royal, Associate Professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Texas State University
@CindyRoyal, is an Associate Professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Texas State University teaching digital and data-driven media skills and concepts.
Prior to her doctoral stories, she spent 10 years in the technology industry with NCR Corporation and Compaq Computer. Her research focused on data journalism, coding education and gender issues in technology. In 2013, Cindy received Texas State’s Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching and the AEJMC/Scripps Howard Journalism and Mass Communication Teacher of the Year award.
