Social Distillery Employee Spotlight – Christina Linnell

We’d like to welcome and introduce our new Senior Account Manager, Christina Linnell. Christina spent the first decade of her life in Southern California. Then moved to Texas, where she thought for sure she would see tumble weed and cowboys at the airport. Christina has been married to her husband, Dan, for over 20 years who is her partner in crime, helping raise their two teenagers. In her downtime, Christina loves hanging out with her many dogs and cat and binge-watching Netflix.

Where did you grow up?

I was born in Santa Cruz, California and moved to Texas when I was 13. I am a CaliTexan for sure!

What jobs did you have prior to Social Distillery?

How much time do you have? When I moved to Austin I started blogging simply to stay in touch with friends and family. I was hooked and started attending any group events or conferences that I could find on blogging. When I saw a lack of a blogging community here in Austin, I decided to start a community myself. What started out as a group of three women getting together each month for dinner and drinks and talking blogging turned into a group of over 700 local bloggers. We garnered enough attention that big brands began calling. After all this time the group is still going and growing!

While blogging I realized how important social media was to a successful blog. When I began building my social accounts I quietly fell in love with social. So much so that I began doing social media for small businesses. I started getting so much referral business that I started my own social media management company, Linnell Media. I ran the company for 6 years. Then in 2016, I decided I was ready to work in a larger company setting, that is when I joined USDM Digital as a Consumer Engagement Team Lead. I had a blast working in the Travel and Tourism space and learned so much. And now I am here, with Social Distillery and I couldn’t be more excited.

What drew you to the social media industry?

I am one of those unique people that have created actual, real friendships through social media. Ones where I have never met the person IRL. I believe when you are authentic and vulnerable online you will draw people in. That is what spurred my love and passion for social media.

Are there any brands that you follow?

Yes! I love everything Whataburger does on social. The team at McGarrah Jessee has done a great job bringing personality to the brand.

What are your Go-To TV shows?

Oh my gosh! There are so many. I think there is a lot of smart and funny writing happening nowadays. My husband and I are devoted fans of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead. As in, never miss an episode and have hosted watch parties. Yeah. I also love Blackish, Grey’s Anatomy, Chicago Fire and on and on.

What is your favorite place to eat in Austin, Texas?

I am a sucker for mom and pop restaurants. I love a good chain too but a place that makes everything fresh (cough, cough, wink, wink #ChuysAF), has an outstanding staff and honest to goodness great food, I am in. I could eat the Soft Pretzels and Provolone Fondue from Culinary Dropout. I was recently introduced to Veracruz All Natural Migas breakfast tacos and I think I might need counseling. Yeah, they are that good. I could go for one right now.

What’s an interesting fact that not many people know about you?

Can I give two? The first one, I moved seven times by the time I was 13. And not just houses, but new cities. I think that is why I am open to change and new friends. It’s how I was raised. The second is that I was on an episode of Captain Kangaroo and CHIPS as a kid.
